Ed Sheeran Breaks Down One Direction, Taylor Swift Collaborations

British singer/songwriter says he was surprised by 'how cool' Swift is.

<P>If you still don't know who 21-year-old British singer/songwriter <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/sheeran_ed_liverpool_england_/artist.jhtml">Ed Sheeran</a> is, then you might want to bone up. The folkie up-and-comer is already being embraced by some of the biggest pop acts on the planet as he launches a full-on U.S. invasion of his own.</P><P>Having already worked with the boys of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/_one_direction_/artist.jhtml">One Direction</a> on their album <a href="/news/articles/1681495/one-direction-billboard.jhtml"><i>Up All Night,</i></a> he revealed he's going to work with the guys again later this summer as <a href="/news/articles/1687496/one-direction-hundred-million-dollar-business.jhtml">they prep their sophomore release</a>.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="What's Up With Harry Styles And Taylor Swift?" id="vid:758304" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"I wrote a couple of songs when I was 17 that One Direction want for their next album," he said, via <a href="http://perezhilton.com/2012-06-26-ed-sheeran-to-produce-songs-for-one-direction-new-album#.T-mx7xdfHMo" target="_blank">Perez Hilton</a>. "I'm going into the studio in August to produce the tracks for them."</P><P>In addition to working with the British boy banders, he also recently hit the studio with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/swift__taylor/artist.jhtml">Taylor Swift</a>, as she prepares her <a href="/news/articles/1679271/taylor-swift-safe-and-sound.jhtml">follow-up to <i>Speak Now,</i></a> her smash 2010 release.</P><P>"It's such a pleasure to have people like her in the music industry &#8212; she has the talent and is so down to earth, head and shoulders," he told <a href="http://popcrush.com/ed-sheeran-taylor-swift-touring-snow-patrol/" target="_blank">Pop Crush</a>, adding that he was surprised by "just how cool she was."</P><P>He went on to say that he was taken aback by her maturity when they hit the studio together. "I've never really met acts like [her]. You meet people like Elton [John] who have been in the game for 30-40 years who are wise and old and been at it for a long time &#8212; and Taylor's been in it for six years and she's 22," he explained. "And you hear horror stories about younger musicians who kind of go a bit off the rails, but she's so together and so kind of professional and knows what she wants, but ... isn't too harsh &#8212; she's just a really sweet gentle person &#8212; so yeah, that's what surprised me, is that she was sound."</P><P>Sheeran recently dropped his own <a href="/news/articles/1687847/usher-billboard-looking-4-myself.jhtml">debut album, <i>+,</i></a> Stateside, where he landed at #5 on the <i>Billboard</i> Hot 200 chart.</p>
