Britney Spears Joins 'X Factor' As A Judge

Pop star will earn a reported $15 million for one season.

Move over, Christina! Now that "The Voice" has wrapped, it's time for another Mouseketeer-turned-diva to judge future music stars: Britney Spears has reportedly signed a deal to be a judge on "The X Factor," according to <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/its_official_britney_spears_signs_x/312961" target="_blank">E! News</a>.News first broke in early March that the pop star was in negotiations to join the panel of Fox's reality singing competition, and last month, it was reported that Spears was being offered $15 million for one season of the show — $3 million more than Jennifer Lopez earns as a judge on "American Idol.""The contract is signed," a source told E! "There's been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks as they negotiated the small details, but she's on. It's all completed and Britney is beyond excited."In an April interview with <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2012/04/17/simon-cowell-britney-spears-x-factor-tmz-live/" target="_blank">TMZ</a>, Cowell remained mum about the Spears negotiation rumors but admitted that he would "love" to have her on "X Factor.""I think it would be a coup," he said. "I think she would be a fascinating person to sit next to, so we'll have to wait and see."Spears will join returning mentors Cowell and record executive L.A. Reid on the panel.Several stars — from <a href="/news/articles/1684320/x-factor-judges-miley-cyrus-britney-spears.jhtml">Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato</a> to Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey — were reportedly discussed as possible <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">replacements for Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul</a> before Spears became the front-runner. Justin Combs & UCLA Respond To Criticism Of His Football Scholarship, Reveals Graduation Pics

While Justin Combs spent the weekend celebrating his high school graduation with dad Diddy, mama Misa and plenty of friends & family, folks were up in arms about his UCLA full football scholarship. Why? Because some argue he should have turned it down since his father is extremely wealthy, so he doesn't "need" it.

Instead of everyone offering praises for the new Bruins baller, Justin Combs has received some criticism as some folks seem to think his annual $54,000 MERIT-BASED scholarship award is taking away money from other students who actually need it.

UCLA responded yesterday saying:

"There's a misconception out there that somehow athletic scholarships would take away money from low-income students who need need-based aid," school spokesman Ricardo Vazquez said. "That's not the case. Athletic scholarships are awarded strictly on the basis of athletic and academic ability."

And Justin, who graduated with a 3.7 GPA from a top private school and won several football awards and made the prestigious All Star/All American team this year, tweeted last night:

Regardless what the circumstances are, I put that work in!!!! PERIOD. Regardless of what you do in life every1 is gonna have their own opinion. Stay focused, keep that tunnel vision & never 4get why u started.

He received co-signs from his extremely supportive mom Misa Hylton, of course.

And we have to agree. There is a huge difference between need-based scholarships and merit-based scholarships. What kind of society would we be when we begin to tell any student or child you do not deserve to EARN merit simply because of what your parents have? Shouldn't we congratulate all students and kids who work extremely hard in sports, the classroom, etc?

Justin Bieber Battery Case Against Paparazzo Could Be Sent To Prosecutors

'Nothing has been presented yet, but there is a possibility it will be,' says a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County D.A.'s office.

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> may end up having his day in court if police decide to refer his case of <a href="/news/articles/1685942/justin-bieber-paparazzo-criminal-battery.jhtml">criminal battery</a>  to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office for possible criminal prosecution.Though a spokesperson for the D.A.'s office told MTV News on Tuesday (May 29) that nothing has been presented yet, that doesn't mean action isn't coming. "There is a possibility it will be," said spokesperson Shiara Davila-Morales. <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2012/05/29/justin-bieber-battery-paparazzo-prosecutors/" target="_blank">TMZ</a> reported that the case will be referred for possible prosecution after Bieber was allegedly involved in an altercation with an unnamed paparazzi photographer on Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of a mall in Calabasas, California. Citing unnamed sources, the site reported that police investigating the case have already decided to refer the case to prosecutors, even though they are still in the midst of the investigation.In addition to witnesses, the police are eager to interview Bieber, 18, who has been unavailable so far because he is on a promotional jaunt to Norway.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="MTV First: Justin Bieber" id="id:1684329" width="415" height="255"></div>Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Lieutenant Margarito Robles told MTV News that the investigation is ongoing and that there was no update on its progress at press time. He also noted that a large percentage of these kinds of cases do get presented to the D.A.'s office, where it is left up to prosecutors to decide how, or if, to proceed.Bieber is a suspect in a criminal battery investigation after he got into it with the photographer, who was reportedly attempting to snap a shot of Bieber when a physical altercation took place between them.The photographer called 911 after the incident, but when the police arrived Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez had already left the scene. The camera man was transported to a local hospital by ambulance after complaining of pain in his upper torso and released a short time later. He filed a police report naming Bieber as the culprit and police are now investigating the incident as a misdemeanor battery case and are looking to speak to Bieber, Gomez and other witnesses. It has not yet been reported what injuries the photog allegedly suffered or what took place during the scuffle.A spokesperson for Bieber had no comment on the incident. According to TMZ, if Bieber is charged and convicted, he could face up to six months in jail. But, given the chronic overcrowding in Los Angeles jails and a federal mandate to ease that overpopulation, it's unlikely that the singer would spend much time behind bars if convicted.<center><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></center>

(Every Play Is Crucial),</a> seemingly out of nowhere Monday, it featured an older track with Eminem, titled <a href="/news/articles/1658606/things-get-worse-eminem-bob.jhtml">"Things Get Worse."</a> Though the track leaked in February, B.o.B decided to not let it go to waste.When MTV News caught up with Bob on Tuesday evening, he said the track was recorded in Detroit around the same time as the "Airplanes" sequel. He also said he relished the opportunity to work so closely with two artists — B.o.B is signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle — that were already legends."Working with artists like Tip and Eminem, you really learn a lot from people who have put out countless albums," he said. "Being that I'm fresh in the industry and really eager to learn and really show people everything I can do musically, they kind of help me. I remember Tip telling me, 'I'm with you. I support everything you do.' "B.o.B revealed that he and Em have been in touch, and he had a chance to play Slim Shady his new record, Strange Clouds. Bobby Ray said it was still surreal to sit down with Em and have the rapper critique his work, especially since Em has been supportive of what he's already done. "I grew up listening to Eminem, so to be able to work and get advice on your music from him is a dream come true," he said. "It was free, a free environment. Usher Sought 'Creative Way' To Debut Looking 4 Myself

Sure, anyone can hold an album-listening party at some record label's headquarters or, to really mix it up, some swanky nightclub. But for <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a>, that just wasn't enough. When he was looking for a way to debut tracks off <a href="/news/articles/1684389/usher-looking-4-myself-cover-neck-tattoo.jhtml">Looking 4 Myself</a>, out June 12, he found another way to spread the word.Last month, Usher appeared in the off-Broadway show <a href="/news/articles/1684028/usher-fuerza-bruta-looking-for-myself.jhtml">"Fuerza Bruta,"</a> in which he played the male lead, Running Man, for one night only. During the show, he played all his newest, shiniest tracks for lucky theatergoers. When MTV News spoke to him exclusively during rehearsals, he explained that his part in "Fuerza" provided the perfect pairing between the themes on his album and the visuals of the play.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Exclusive First Look At Usher's 'Fuerza Bruta' Performance" id="vid:769347.id:1685086" width="415" height="255"></div>"I mean, life is like that in a lot of ways. This was something that I organically came to," he explained. "When you think about the lyrics of 'Climax,' 'Going nowhere fast/ We reached the climax' ... 'Going nowhere fast' would be running in place," he explained, referring to a part in the show where he runs on a treadmill, never actually ending up anywhere."Looking 4 Myself, I'm walking with my head down, counting every step," he explained, referring to another act in the show. "I'm always trying to find very creative ways for the music and the art to work together and this is it. I only hoped it would be viewed in that way, in an unprecedented way. I hoped that people would be able to identify with it and become acclimated with my experience in a fun way, creative. This was kind of an emotional experience that leads you into my world."Usher has even more to share about his experience in the show as well as his highly anticipated album release. It's being billed as "the biggest live music event in radio history" (whatever that means), and so, the organizers of the brand-new <a href="http://www.iheartradio.com/cc-common/iheartradio-music-festival/" target="_blank">iHeartRadio Festival</a> have pulled out all the stops, delivering a lineup that's appropriately loaded with some of the biggest stars in the business.<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/coldplay/artist.jhtml">Coldplay</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/minaj__nicki/artist.jhtml">Nicki Minaj</a>, the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/black_eyed_peas/artist.jhtml">Black Eyed Peas</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/keys_alicia/artist.jhtml">Alicia Keys</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/underwood__carrie/artist.jhtml">Carrie Underwood</a> and Steven Tyler are just some of the acts set to appear at the inaugural I Heart Radio fest, scheduled for September 23 and 24 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Volcanic Ash Can't Stop Metallica On European Tour

Band has been traveling by boat and bus to make it to all the shows.

All week long, we've been hearing about how <a href="/news/articles/1637402/volcanic-ash-disrupts-travel-plans-miley-cyrus-usher-adam-lambert.jhtml">Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull volcano has disrupted pop culture</a>. With airports shuttered across Europe, the "Iron Man 2" premiere has shifted from London to Los Angeles, Miley Cyrus couldn't make it to the London red carpet for "The Last Song," and Adam Lambert had to cancel a planned promotional trip across the pond.You know who the erupting volcano couldn't stop? Metallica! In the midst of a European tour, the band has been traveling by boat and bus to ensure no shows are missed. To make a concert in Riga, Latvia, on Saturday, the band traveled 28 hours to accomplish what a plane would have in just two hours."I just could not relax, thinking, 'Wow, those buses have changed a lot since we traveled,' " lead guitarist Kirk Hammett told reporters, according to <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100421/ap_en_mu/eu_lithuania_volcano_metallica" target="_blank">The Associated Press.</a> "They are so much more comfortable. You see, we did not use this means of transportation for more than two decades since the tragedy."Metallica bassist Cliff Burton was killed during a European tour in September 1986, when the band's bus skidded and flipped over multiple times in Sweden. "When we boarded the bus again this week and had to travel overnight, I realized that those bad memories are still here. I still haven't overcome the fear of buses," Hammett said. "But the show must go on."To get to Riga, the band took a bus from Oslo to Stockholm, then hopped a cruise ship headed to the Latvian capital. Onboard the ship was a contingent of surprised Metallica fans. One of those fans, a 23-year-old named Liga Viskinte, told the AP that singer James Hetfield and bassist Robert Trujillo hung out in the ship's karaoke bar, drinking beer and taking in a passenger's version of "Whiskey in the Jar."Currently in Lithuania, Metallica are planning to take a 13-hour train to Moscow on Thursday for a two-night stand (unless, that is, travel restrictions are lifted by then). From there, the tour will pick up again May 11 and hit cities like Belfast, Lisbon, Madrid and Prague, before wrapping up in Istanbul on June 27."It would take a really great force to stop us," Hammett said of continuing the tour, adding that no one was sure how they'd be getting back to America after the shows in Russia. That's why it's so hard to imagine the Taylor Gang general as a geek, but in his and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/snoop_dogg/artist.jhtml">Snoop Dogg</a>'s upcoming film <a href="/news/articles/1675454/wiz-khalifa-snoop-doggs-mac-amp-devin-jams-ny.jhtml">"Mac & Devin Go to High School,"</a> the Pittsburgh rapper plays just that.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Wiz Khalifa Is 'Super Square' In His Movie With Snoop" id="vid:720022" width="240" height="211"></div>"I'm super square in the movie," Wiz told MTV News, laughing backstage at his and Snoop's New York concert last week. "I'm a square in the movie, and I pretty much maintain that squareness. I mean, I walk on the wild side, I do some cool things, but I tapped into my nerdy side."Though the "Mac & Devin" soundtrack hit stores Tuesday, the stoner comedy won't be out until February. According to Wiz, it wasn't difficult for him to turn down his cool for the camera. "That's kind of who I am as a real person too; I was really reserved," Khalifa said about his high school days at Taylor Allderdice High in Pittsburgh. "I was really fall-backish, so I can totally connect with my character Devin in the movie. It was real easy."Fans got their first real glimpse of Wiz as Devin in the duo's <a href="/news/articles/1674841/wiz-khalifa-snoop-dogg-young-wild-free-music-video.jhtml">"Young, Wild & Free" video</a>. In the clip, which mixes movie scenes with performance footage, Wiz's character is seen wandering through the school halls looking extremely studious with his shirt buttoned all the way to the top. Fox's song-and-dance series "Glee" is no stranger to a star-studded cameo or two, with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, John Stamos and Kristin Chenoweth all walking the halls of McKinley High during the past two and a half seasons. And as the show returns from a month-long hiatus, Gleeks aren't the only ones anticipating a few more famous faces. As star Chris Colfer told MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet, there's plenty to look forward to when New Directions warble again January 17."Well, the Michael Jackson episode ...," Colfer answered when asked about his most-anticipated upcoming episodes. Jackson sang a version of the theme song that appeared in the movie's closing credits and was later included on his 1972 album also named Ben. "I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth."Beyoncé continues to gush about her baby girl, saying, "She's just the cutest thing," adding that she makes up songs to sing just to Blue Ivy. When asked which of her parents the baby resembles more, B responded, "She looks like Blue. Bachelorette 2012 eliminated Tony,Alessandro, & Stevie in episode 3 tonight. Tonight's episode kicked off with a 1 on 1 date between Emily and Chris. She took him building climbing to kick off the date. They appeared to have fun after they reached the top. Later on, they had dinner,and Emily got a bit nervous when Chris told he was only 25 years old. However, he successfully reassured her that he's ready to take on a family and have a serious relationship. Next, they went dancing,and started kissing. Needless to say,she had a very good date with him,and gave him an early rose. Next, Emily took a couple of the guys on a group date out to the park, so her gal pals could grill them with a ton of awkward questions to see who was the right guy. At one point, Ryan told Emily, he wouldn't be as into her, physically, if she ever got lazy and fat,and Emily said, she didn't like that too much. Later on, Emily talked 1 on 1 with a couple of the guys. Tony started sobbing over missing his little son,and it got him a lot of attention from Emily. Ultimately, Emily told him to head on home,because she didn't want to keep him from his son, longer,and have him regret things if it didn't work out in the end. After that, she gave Sean and early rose. Next, Emily took Arie on a 1 on 1 date to Nashville, Tennessee,via a private plane. Once they arrived, they hit up an amusement park,and road a bunch of scary rides.
